Detailed Summary

Audit report search tool

EPA maintains a searchable list of properties issued with a certificate or statement of environmental audit as part of a 53X audit or with a report as part of a 53V audit, under part IXD of the Environment Protection Act.

53V reports, and certificates and statements of environmental audit, are statutory documents and are issued after a statutory environmental audit of a property or site has been conducted under the Act. Statutory environmental audits can only be conducted within the requirements of section 53, part IXD of the Act, by persons appointed as environmental auditors under section 53S(1) of the Act.

A certificate of environmental audit is issued for a property where, following an audit, an environmental auditor believes the environmental condition of the land is suitable for any beneficial use. Beneficial uses are defined in section 4 of the Act. Some examples are:

  • maintenance and preservation of natural ecosystems and associated wildlife
  • maintenance of human health and wellbeing
  • aesthetic enjoyment and amenity
  • productive capacity of land for agriculture, silviculture or horticulture.

A statement of environmental audit is issued where, following an audit, an environmental auditor believes the land isn’t suitable for all possible beneficial uses, but is suitable for specific uses or developments. It may contain conditions for clean-up or management of contamination. If the land use changes for a property which has been issued an environmental audit, a new audit may be needed.

EPA updates this list as environmental audits are completed and certificates and statements issued.
